How the conversion works

Print size and pixels are linked by DPI (dots per inch): inches = pixels ÷ DPI, and pixels = inches × DPI. At the 300 DPI print standard, a 2400×3000 pixel image prints exactly 8×10 inches.

Questions

Quick answers.

How do I convert pixels to inches for printing?

Divide the pixel dimension by the DPI. At 300 DPI, 2400 pixels ÷ 300 = 8 inches, so a 2400×3000 image prints at 8×10 inches.

How many pixels is 8×10 inches at 300 DPI?

Multiply inches by DPI: 8×300 = 2400 and 10×300 = 3000, so 8×10 at 300 DPI is 2400×3000 pixels.

What DPI should I use for prints?

300 DPI is the print standard. Large wall art viewed from a distance can look fine at 150–200 DPI, but small prints held close need the full 300.
