- To cover essentially every frame sold, offer one master file for each of six ratios: 2:3, 3:4, 4:5, 5:7, 11:14, and ISO A.
- At 300 DPI, pixels = inches × 300. An 8×10 needs 2400×3000 px; a 24×36 poster needs 7200×10800 px.
- Sizes that share a ratio print from one file — 4×5, 8×10 and 16×20 are all 4:5, so one 4:5 master covers all three.
- 11×14 is its own ratio (11:14), not 4:5 — it always needs a separate file.

The pixel rule for 300 DPI
Print resolution is simple math: pixels = inches × 300. A 5×7 print at 300 DPI needs 1500×2100 pixels. If a file has fewer pixels than that, it prints soft — the DPI tag alone does not add detail.
