Best Sizes for Etsy Printable Wall Art (2026)
The exact sizes and ratios top printable shops include, why 5 ratio files beat 30 individual sizes, and the pixel dimensions each one needs.
Buyers don't search for a ratio. They search for "print for 8x10 frame" or "24x36 wall art" — then message you asking why the file doesn't fit their IKEA frame. The best-selling printable shops solve this before it happens by covering every common frame with five ratio files.
The five files that cover every frame
| File ratio | Prints these sizes |
|---|---|
| 2:3 | 4x6, 6x9, 8x12, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, 24x36 |
| 3:4 | 6x8, 9x12, 12x16, 18x24 |
| 4:5 | 4x5, 8x10, 16x20 |
| 11:14 | 11x14 only (no other frame shares it) |
| ISO A | A5, A4, A3, A2, A1 |
That's 20+ frame sizes from five uploads — which matters because Etsy caps digital listings at 5 files of 20MB each. One ratio file scales cleanly to every print size in its row, because scaling doesn't change proportions; only cropping does.
Which sizes actually sell
If you only optimize one crop, make it 4:5 — it drives 8x10 and 16x20, the two most-framed sizes in the US. 2:3 is second (24x36 posters, 4x6 gift prints), and ISO A is non-negotiable if you want UK/EU/Australian buyers, who print at A4 and A3 at home or at a copy shop.
Worked example: one painting, five files
Say your source is a botanical scan at 3600x5400 px (a 2:3 shape already).
- 2:3 master: no crop needed. 3600 ÷ 300 = 12, 5400 ÷ 300 = 18 — it prints cleanly at 12x18. At 24x36 it would only be 150 DPI, so your listing should say "crisp up to 12x18, good up to 18x27."
- 4:5 master: crop to 3600x4500 px → prints 8x10 at 450 DPI and 16x20 at 225 DPI (acceptable for viewing distance, but say so).
- 3:4, 11:14, ISO A: same idea — crop, never stretch.
The dangerous move is upscaling to hit "24x36 at 300 DPI." Stretched pixels get you refund requests. Crop at full resolution, embed 300 DPI metadata, and be honest about the ceiling.
Doing five accurate crops per artwork by hand in Photoshop takes 15–20 minutes. The free Ratio-Pack Generator does all five in one click — drag your image in, adjust each crop's focal point, and download a ZIP with 300 DPI already embedded, sized to your image's true maximum.
Before you list
- Check each file's largest clean print size and state it.
- Include a one-page size chart so buyers know which file fits which frame (this kills 90% of "which file do I print?" messages).
- Read how many sizes to include before writing your listing copy — more sizes listed = more search matches.
