How to Price Digital Downloads on Etsy
Digital downloads cost nothing to reproduce, so pricing them is a different game than physical goods. Price too low and Etsy's fixed fees eat the sale; here's the realistic range.
A printable has no material cost per sale, so the usual cost-plus formula doesn't apply. Two things drive the right price: perceived value and Etsy's fixed fees.
Why cheap printables lose money
Every Etsy sale carries fixed fees — a $0.20 listing fee and a $0.25 payment fixed fee — plus percentages. On a $2 download those fixed fees alone are a quarter of the price before the percentage cuts. Price too low and you're working for pennies. There's a floor below which digital downloads aren't worth listing.
Realistic price bands
| Product | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Single wall-art print (size pack) | $4–8 |
| Multi-piece art set | $9–18 |
| Planner / worksheet bundle | $8–20 |
| Editable template (Canva) | $6–15 |
Price on value, not effort
Buyers pay for the outcome, not your hours. A polished nursery-art set that saves someone an afternoon is worth more than a single quick graphic — even if the quick graphic took similar time. Bundle, offer multiple sizes/ratios (which raises perceived value at zero extra cost), and present it cleanly.
The fixed-fee floor
Because of the $0.20 + $0.25 fixed fees, a $3 download nets meaningfully less than a $6 one proportionally. Running your price through the Etsy Fee Calculator shows the real take-home and helps you find the price where the fixed fees stop hurting.
Raise perceived value for free
Offering every frame ratio and size in the download costs you nothing but makes the listing look far more complete than a single-size file. The free Ratio-Pack Generator builds that full pack from one image — a simple way to justify a higher price. See also how many sizes to include.
